“GLP-3” vs. triple agonist: getting the terminology right

People sometimes search “GLP-3” when they mean a molecule acting at three metabolic hormone receptors. The research terminology is more specific: name the receptors.

Why “GLP-3” can be misleading

“GLP-3” is not the standard scientific name of a third GLP receptor in this context. For molecules such as retatrutide, the relevant description is a triple agonist at the GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon receptors.

Dual versus triple agonists

A dual agonist is designed to activate two defined receptor systems; a triple agonist activates three. Those receptor identities—not the number alone—are what matter scientifically.

Search terminology versus scientific terminology

This page intentionally addresses common search language while preserving precise terminology. Driftless Research will use receptor-specific descriptions on product and documentation pages rather than relying on shorthand that can create confusion.

See the retatrutide research reference or return to the GLP research hub.
